Dear Members, Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team. What’s been happening: During the last 2 weeks we have found stolen vehicles and returned them back to their rightful owners, prosecuted offenders for bilking offences in the local area, located high risk missing persons, conducting policing inputs in local primary schools and issuing Community protection warnings to those passive or aggressively begging in the area. We have offered various support those involved in begging, homelessness and those seeking further support for addictions. We still have our weekly drop in sessions for those needing support at Acock’s Green Police station, every Wednesday at 12pm. We are still working with our Mobile speed van unit and getting month stats. We are aware of the figures and we know there is still more to do. But, this evidence has assisted in changes to speed limits on certain roads and further prevention and long term solutions being installed. We will continue this work and look at many problem solving solutions to reduce fatalities and other vehicle relates crime in the area. Parking enforcement are continuing their patrols around the Yew Tree regarding the concerns around illegal parking. Parking enforcement have continued their patrols and have issues 47 parking fines. They will continue their patrols around the Yew Tree and we are asking all to use the car park where possible. Officers are still assisting with issuing tickets in and around residential streets and over the last 2 weeks 22 tickets have been issued. That is a combined total of 69 tickets! We are also asking for the community to provide an alternative to cash to those begging if you wish to give. This can be with various charities of your choosing or providing hot food or drinks. This will support in any aggressive persistent offending to become reduced in the area. Another scheme is Billy Chip – further details on this can be found on this link: Homepage (billychip.com) We are aware of the community’s concerns surrounding the Yew Tree. This is being discussed between ourselves and partners to take a multi-agency approach to tackling anything causing the community and area harm.
