Weekly Update from your local Bablake NPT
Dear Members
Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
Tool Theft There have been two reports of vans being broken into. These have happened on HOLYHEAD ROAD and TAMWORTH ROAD. Power tools have been stolen from both including laser levels and drill sets. Officers have been carrying out enquiries and securing CCTV footage. Additional patrols are also being carried out.
To protect your van from tool theft we would recommend that owners install aftermarket locks such as deadlocks, slam locks and hook locks the latter of which prevents prying. Reinforce doors and panels with internal shielding or anti peel kits. Whilst we always recommend tools being removed overnight, if this is not possible fit a lockable tool vault or box to secure high value items. When leaving your van, park in a well-lit area and position it so the doors are against a wall or other solid object to prevent access. Please take the time in marking tools with forensic DNA or UV pens and register them on a database such as Immobilise. Photograph and inventory tools with serial numbers and unique marks/ features which can all aid in recovery and being reunited.
Vehicle Seizures On Sunday, a call came in of a vehicle being stolen. Officers from the team and other departments flooded the area within minutes. The stolen vehicle was swiftly found nearby and recovered. Your team have also seized other motors including a ‘clone’ involved in high value thefts, a surron bike along with the owners drugs and an uninsured driver who was a provisional licence holder and being supervised by a provisional licence holder! Other seizures have been for for no mot/ insurance/ tax. Seizing for these infringements makes our roads safer and often leads to other crimes being uncovered.
Burglary No burglaries have been reported which is fantastic. This good news story didn’t quite make it in our last update as it happened towards the end of the shift. Whilst on high visibility patrols, officers stopped two males on KERESLEY ROAD. Initially one male did not give his correct details but after some checks it transpired perhaps the reason why! He was wanted for burglary. The male was arrested and has since been charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and blackmail. We appreciate the impact burglaries have on victims and always take great delight when a burglar is caught meaning our area is safer.
Other News Officers attended an address of a suspect identified for shoplifting. Unknowingly for the officers, they were taking part in a game of hide and seek! After searching the property, the suspect was located in a cupboard. Maybe this game was also because they were wanted for failing to appear. One in custody, result!
Finally, on two consecutive days the team have found vulnerable missing people, one individual was a juvenile and the other an elderly male missing from Allesley Park. Both are now thankfully safe and with their families.
Until next week Stay safe everyone.
