Shops attract shoplifters. As part of Safer Business Action Week, we’re sharing six top tips to help secure your livelihood:

1. Meet and greet – greeting customers as they enter can put shoplifters off

2. Crime mapping – if you’re experiencing thefts, keep a record of what, where and when to help you identify changes you need to make

3. Electronic tagging – an anti-theft terminal at the entrance makes a statement to shoplifters that the store is protected

4. Keep it tidy – an uncluttered shop with make it more difficult for people to steal things unnoticed

5. Personal safety – carry out a risk assessment so you can consider what you might do if you need to engage with a potential shoplifter.

6. Safety in numbers – thieves will target stores where there is only one member of staff.
