Weekly Round-up! |
||||||||
Good Afternoon Resident,
I'm back with another weekly update on what our City Centre Policing Team has been up to! From tackling crime and anti-social behaviour to keeping our community safe and welcoming, here's a quick look at our recent activity and how we've been working to support everyone in the city centre.
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – City Centre officers made five arrests this week as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and keep our community safe. One male was arrested in connection with a recent murder, following a swift and coordinated investigation by our officers. Another male was detained by the Guardian Task Force for possession of an offensive weapon — he has since been banned from the city centre, fitted with an electronic tag, and placed under a curfew. The remaining arrests were linked to a range of offences including theft, assault, and public order matters, reflecting our continued commitment to tackling criminal behaviour and maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
Community Engagement – Our City Centre PCSOs have been busy this week engaging with the community and building positive relationships across Wolverhampton. They recently visited the Wolverhampton Adult Education Centre on Herbert Street, where they held an informative talk with students with learning difficulties about hate crime — what it is, how to report it, and the support available to victims. The session was well received, with teachers praising the officers for their approachable manner and clear communication. Around 30 students took part, helping to raise awareness and encourage confidence in speaking out against hate crime.
The team also attended several other community events, including a dementia awareness session at the North Bank Bar at Molineux, where they supported efforts to improve understanding and inclusion for those living with dementia. Officers then visited the Hub at Wolverhampton Train Station to speak with Black Country NHS staff and engage with vulnerable members of the public, offering advice and support. To round off the week, the team hosted a crime prevention stand at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery, focusing on knife crime awareness and Christmas safety tips — helping residents stay safe and informed as the festive season approaches.
Guardian Patrols – This week’s Guardian patrols around the city centre have been relatively quiet, with no major incidents to report. Officers maintained a visible presence throughout the week, engaging with local businesses and members of the public to offer reassurance and support. It’s been very much business as usual, with patrols continuing to focus on keeping the city centre safe, welcoming, and free from antisocial behaviour.
Night-Time Economy – It’s been a busy week for the night-time economy (NTE) team, with city centre officers stepping in to support Wolverhampton response after half of their team were deployed to Birmingham to assist with an increase in fireworks-related incidents. During the evening, officers responded swiftly to an assault on Broad Street, ensuring the victim received medical attention and carrying out enquiries to identify those involved. Despite this incident, the city centre remained relatively calm overall, and there were no further major issues to report. Our new student officers were out on patrol and enjoyed a fairly relaxed evening, gaining valuable experience in the role. An update from tonight’s NTE patrols will be included in next week’s message.
Other News - This week, several Wolverhampton city centre officers were drafted in to assist with policing the Aston Villa match, supporting colleagues to ensure the event ran smoothly and safely. Their presence helped manage large crowds, maintain public order, and provide reassurance to fans and local residents. The operation was well coordinated, and thanks to the joint effort of all officers involved, the match day passed without any major incidents.
What to Watch - As part of Christmas in Wolverhampton, the city centre will also host a Christmas Market on Victoria Street on the weekend of November 22&23 and from Friday November 28 to Sunday 30, featuring local artists and crafters showcasing and selling their work.
An enchanting and free 3D projection show which first arrived in Wolverhampton in 2023 will return this November, transforming St Peter’s Church with a ‘Lights in the Night’ show. The spectacle will project onto the church, celebrating the rich history, heritage, and diversity of the City of Wolverhampton. The show will play on a loop every five minutes and you will be able to spot key highlights such as running wolves and exploding locks as the city’s past is presented in a 3D light animation. Christmas Light Switch-on dates and times below.
