Rogue Traders across Hythe and Folekstone |
Kent Police has received calls regarding a trader who identifies that your roof tiles need repair or that your guttering needs clearing. The trader has approached households where there is a lone female and initially been kind and courteous offering a free inspection or a low price to clear the gutters. He even references Check a Trade to be checked whilst he carries out the repairs. Once on the roof he has caused damage to tiles and offers to make the repairs immediately for £375. The trader has been intimidating when payment is refused and on one occasion a victim has given him £100 just to get him away from the property. The attached flyer has been left with a victim, which gave them opportunity to use ‘checkatrade’ and check legitimacy of the company.
Residents are reminded not to accept cold callers for any DIY or household projects. Use recognised traders that you have initialised contact with. Ask them to verify their identification. Never pay upfront. Don't feel pressured. Go to a neighbours for help if you feel intimidated. Call police if you feel intimidated and the trader will not leave your premises.
If you or someone you know has been approached by a rogue trader and you have any details that can help to identify them such as car registration, ring doorbell or any images. Please contact me
