Using CCTV to protect YOUR area |
||
|
Dear Resident, This is an important initiative that will help the police to improve crime detection in your area. Neighbourhood Watch is actively working with the police in your area to improve their knowledge of domestic CCTV coverage, so that in the event of an incident they can react with increased precision to identify useful sources of CCTV evidence. This approach is already working well in other areas, and can be greatly improved for your own area if more residents indicate that they have a working CCTV system or Video Doorbell. Remember that it is perfectly legal for your domestic CCTV system to film beyond the boundary of your property provided that the Data Protection Act is adhered to, which in essence means: you must display a small CCTV sticker (available cheaply online); don’t retain the footage beyond a reasonable time period; and manage sensible access to those who can view and download it. Action required please!If you have a domestic CCTV system or Video Doorbell we would really appreciate a few moments of your time right now if you could log in to your Neighbourhood Watch account and do/check/update the following: You can then log out – it’s that simple, and will mean that if a crime occurs in the future then the existence of your CCTV system can be discussed with officers, and a message sent to CCTV sites to ask residents to search for a specific event. Thank you as always for working together as a community to support your local police Safer Neighbourhoods Team.
