Good morning, We are urging all local businesses and residents in Rugeley to be on high alert following multiple incidents involving counterfeit £20 Bank of England notes, including cases where young children have been used to pass fake currency. Offenders typically: Enter shops and purchase low-value items.Use counterfeit £20 notes to receive genuine change.In some cases, children have been involved, likely to reduce suspicion. 🔍 Key Signs to Spot a Fake £20 Note Use the Feel, Look, Tilt method recommended by the Bank of England: ✅ Feel Raised print: Genuine notes have raised ink on "Bank of England" and the denomination.Polymer texture: Real notes feel smooth and slightly waxy, not flimsy or flat.✅ Look See-through window: Should show a clear portrait of the monarch and “£20 Bank of England” printed twice around the edge.Sharp print quality: No smudges or blurred edges.Micro-lettering: Tiny, clear text below the portrait.✅ Tilt Hologram: Changes from “Twenty” to “Pounds” when tilted.Foil patch: Blue and gold on the front, silver on the back.3D coronation crown: Above the main window.✅ UV Check Under UV light, the number ‘20’ appears in bright red and green on the front of the note. 📞 What to Do Do not accept suspicious notes.Report immediately to police via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.Retain CCTV footage and note descriptions of individuals involved. 🛡️ Protect Your Business Train staff to check notes during transactions.Keep a genuine note at the till for comparison.Consider using UV lamps (not detector pens – they don’t work on polymer).
