🎆 Bonfire Night Safety – Let’s Keep Our Community Safe

As Bonfire Night approaches, we want everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely and responsibly. Whether you're attending an organised event or celebrating at home, please take a moment to read these important safety tips:

Please remember the following to keep yourself and everyone else safe, and reduce any anti-social behaviour

🔥 Bonfire & Firework Safety

Only buy fireworks with a CE mark – they meet safety standards.

Always follow instructions and light fireworks at arm’s length.

Never return to a lit firework, even if it hasn’t gone off.

Keep fireworks in a closed box, and use them one at a time.

👮‍♀️ Legal Reminders

Fireworks must not be set off after 11pm (midnight on Bonfire Night).

You must be 18 or over to buy fireworks.

Respect local bylaws and attend organised displays where possible – they’re safer and more spectacular.

It is illegal to let off a firework in a public place and carries a fine of up to £5000 or a £90 Fixed Penalty Notice.

It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under 18 years of age. Maximum penalty of £5000 and/or six months in prison.

🚸 General Tips

Keep pets indoors – fireworks can be distressing.

Wear gloves when handling sparklers, and never give them to children under 5.

Keep a bucket of water or hosepipe nearby in case of emergency.

Avoid loose clothing near flames

We often get an increase in calls regarding fireworks around this time of year, not just on Bonfire Night itself.

Your Safer Neighbourhood Team will be on patrol throughout this week and on Bonfire Night. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable time, but please be considerate to others.
