It's No Joke to Hoax |

Hello Hyde Godley, We have seen an increase of hoax 999 calls being made on Market Place in Hyde over the past couple of weeks. Youths have been ringing 999 and saying that groups of males wearing balaclavas and holding machetes are at that moment robbing businesses. Fake 999 calls put an unnecessary strain on our call handlers, as well as putting people in genuine risk of harm in more danger. False and threatening contact with our call handling team or made through our online reporting system will be dealt with. We are urging parents / carers / family members to educate their family members about hoax calling 999. It is an offence to make a malicious or hoax call to the emergency services. Hoax callers could face a maximum penalty of up to six months in prison or a fine of £5,000. More information can be found at: Think before you dial: Fake 999 calls endanger lives | Greater Manchester Police Regards, The Hyde Godley Team.
