If you are celebrating Hallowe'en tonight on our Borough, please remember to follow this basic checklist below to help everyone enjoy a safe evening:
· If you welcome callers then it's great if you can make that clear by displaying a pumpkin, a sign or similar.
· Keep your pets indoors and away from the door - they may get scared or accidentally slip out.
· Never use naked flames on the doorstep, use LEDs or similar for any lighting - trailing costumes can easily come into contact with candles etc.
· If your children are going trick or treating, make sure that you go with them and keep them in sight.
· Please don’t knock on someone's door if there’s a sign specifically saying ‘No trick or treat here.’
· Try and visit areas which are well-lit, it is easy to trip and fall in trailing costumes.
· If a costume includes a mask make sure that the wearer can see through the eye holes!
· Be careful crossing roads and driveways - an enthusiastic youngster may be paying less attention than usual to a car reversing out, for example.
· Be especially careful not to frighten elderly or vulnerable people - if in doubt don't call.
· Don’t throw eggs or flour. This is a form of anti-social behaviour (ASB), which will not be tolerated by the police - please call them on 101, or 999 if ASB is actually in progress. Give your location by road name, and your what3words precise location if possible.
