Knife Sweep - Alban Way and Cotlandswick - 23rd October 2025 |

Good morning Resident
I am writing to kindly inform you of an enforcement operation which took place yesterday, Thursday 23rd October 2025. As part of the October Month of Action against Knife Crime in Hertfordshire, your Neighbourhood Policing Team organised and executed multiple knife sweeps across the St Albans District. Supported by the ‘Metal Detectives’ and the St Albans and Harpenden Police Cadets, officers carried out sweeps of areas reported to us as hotspots for anti-social behaviour.
Despite the miserable weather, we swept the Alban Way between Morrisons Car Park and Dellfield, speaking to passers-by on the way about the Knife Angel sculpture in Welwyn Garden City, as well as providing reassurance and education on Knife Crime and associated illegal activity in the local area. Officers then moved over to the Cotlandswick Estate in London Colney, sweeping the Playing Fields, garages, alleyways, and hedgerows where items may have been stashed or dropped. We are pleased to report that nothing was found on this occasion, but enforcement activity such as this may be carried out following reports from the public or officer-led intelligence.
My thanks goes to those who supported this Operation to ensure a large area was covered. Many thanks to residents and passers-by for stopping to talk with us about our deployment. We will continue to listen to your reports and feedback so that our patrols are targeted.
If you have a moment to leave a comment as to what you want your local Policing Team to be doing in the next few weeks/months, please drop us a comment on the following link. All feedback will be reviewed and sent across to your local officer!
Kind regards Fiona
