👜 One-Armed Bandit: Shoplifter with Broken Arm Caught After £9,000 Handbag Spree

On 29th September 2025, a suspect with a broken arm entered Selfridges in the City Centre and stole three designer handbags worth more than £9,000.

Following swift investigative work, officers identified the suspect and later discovered him hiding inside a TV cabinet at his mother’s address.

He was charged with shoplifting and subsequently sentenced to 33 weeks in prison.

This means the suspect will be spending Christmas behind bars — thanks to the persistence and teamwork of the investigating officers.

Sergeant Lenihan-Smith of the City Centre Neighbourhood Team said: “This was a great example of thorough investigative work and excellent teamwork. The officers involved acted quickly to identify and locate the suspect, ensuring that he was held accountable for his actions. Their dedication has helped keep our city centre businesses and shoppers safe.”
