Operation Alliance 2 - Vehicle Crime

Last week as part of ‘Operation Alliance 2’(a Met wide initiative targeting vehicle crime)  Sgt O’Donnell and APS Storey lead Chiswick and Acton SNT teams, supported by other Wards from both Hounslow and Ealing, Central Surge Team and Traffic Officers for a week of action covering the Chiswick and Acton areas. 

It was a long and at times exhausting week with a huge effort put in to drive results and reduce vehicle crime. In just one week we had the following results-

-32 Vehicle seizures (14 illegal E-bikes, 18 other Vehicles including cars and mopeds of which 5 were stolen) 

-9 arrests for various offences including – Possession With Intent to Supply Cannabis, traffic offences, immigration offences and violent offences.

-11 Stop and Searches

-Various Drugs seized 

-Over 40 Traffic Offences Reported

The results speak for themselves in how successful we were at targeting vehicle and vehicle enabled crime. We utilised various tactics including fixed and mobile ANPR cameras with vehicle check points. High visibility and unmarked mobile patrols as well as targeting of known crime hotspots. 

Highlights included a male arrested with over £4k of cannabis who was charged with PWITS. A male who failed to stop on a moped with false number plates was pursued and detained after a chase and was charged and remanded for various offences including dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Residents have expressed to us that they want to see more action in relation to illegal e-Bikes and this week has sent a clear message that they are not welcome in our areas. It was good to see the positive reaction from the public who appreciated our presence and actions.
