Motor Vehicle Crime and Pedal Bikes theft

Hi Everyone 

Canning Town South has seen a increase in motor vehicle crime, Pedal bike thefts and theft snatches 

Our aim is to continue patrols and to deter any criminals from doing the above but we cannot be on every street every day. Below I will include some tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime yourself 

Cars and Vans 

Leaving items on show is an invitation - Power leads, Coins, glasses, sat navs and bags (to name some) should always be removed from the vehicle or stored out of sight

Always lock and close the windows on your vehicle when Unattended - On the drive, the petrol station forecourt or when parking, an unlocked vehicle is the easiest to steal or steal from. A steering wheel lock is a good deterrent. When away from home, please consider trackers for your vehicle or using a ‘Park mark’ approved car park. A tracking device can help recover your vehicle of stolen

Fit theft resistant number plate fittings - Stolen number plates are very common in Newham and Met wide. Stolen number plates are commonly used to hide identity of stolen vehicles. You can use one-way clutch head screws.

If your vehicle has wing mirrors that fold in automatically when locked - Make sure you lock it. Criminal Gangs are looking for vehicles like these. If the vehicle is parked up and the mirrors are out, these gangs know and is clear to them the vehicle has been left unlocked.

Pedal Bikes 

Use a good quality lock, proportionate to the Value of your cycle - Stolen Cycles have a good resale value, so protect your cycle with a good quality lock. Quick release wheels and saddles are easily stolen. 

Store in a garage or substantial locked shed, secured to a strong anchor - Even when stored inside, chain cycles to a ground or wall anchor. Garden sheds can easily be broken into - See advice on shed security.
