Crime prevention advice: 1. Use Secure Delivery Options Pick-up points: Choose delivery to an official collection point (e.g., Amazon Hub, Post Office, parcel locker) instead of your doorstep.“Click and collect”: Many retailers allow collection from stores or partner locations.Delivery to workplace: If permitted, this can be more secure than home delivery.2. Schedule Deliveries Track your parcel and try to be home when it arrives. Some couriers allow you to select “deliver only with signature” or “specific delivery window”.3. Use a Secure Delivery Box or Locker Install a lockable parcel drop box outside your home.Make sure it’s fixed to the ground/wall and weather-proof.Label it clearly for couriers (“Parcel box – please deliver inside”).4. Install Smart Technology Video doorbells (e.g., Ring, Nest) can deter thieves and record suspicious activity.Smart locks or gates can allow temporary access for trusted couriers.Motion-activated lighting near your front door increases visibility and deterrence.5. Give Clear Delivery Instructions Use the “safe place” option wisely — somewhere out of view from the street (behind a gate, side passage, etc.).Avoid leaving parcels in plain sight or under doormats (common targets).6. Coordinate with Neighbours Join or form a Neighbourhood Watch group.Ask trusted neighbours to receive parcels if you’re away.If you see someone acting suspiciously, note details (time, appearance, vehicle, etc.) and report to police. In Apartments or Shared Buildings Ensure entry doors and delivery areas are secure and self-closing.Do not buzz in unknown couriers or strangers.Encourage your building management to install CCTV and designated parcel lockers. If possible, set up an internal delivery point with restricted access for residents only. If You’re a Victim Report the theft:- To your courier and retailer immediately.
- To your local police (for evidence and insurance purposes).
Check CCTV footage if available.Warn neighbours – thieves often target multiple homes in one area.Register with local crime prevention schemes or community alert systems.Extra Prevention Ideas Avoid posting delivery details on social media.Mark parcels with a unique identifier if possible.Keep receipts and tracking info until you’ve received the package safely. |
