Please be considerate, not everyone in our community takes part in Halloween. Please respect homes displaying a ‘No trick or treat’ sign. Trick or treating tips. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Only visit homes of people you know and who are happy to take part. Avoid homes with a ‘No trick or treat’ sign. Stay in well-lit areas and avoid shortcuts through alleyways and parks. Be cautious around traffic. Ensure your costumes don't obstruct vision or awareness. Carry a torch, be seen in darkness and carry a fully charged mobile phone if you have one. Stay with your friends - do not split into a smaller groups unless an adult is with you. Throwing eggs and flower at houses and cars is criminal damage. You could be arrested. 🎃 Halloween Safety Tips for Elderly & Vulnerable Residents 🎃 Halloween can be unsettling for those who prefer peace and quiet. Here’s how to stay safe and comfortable: ✅ Display a ‘No Trick or Treats’ Sign Place it on your door or window to discourage callers. 🚪 Don’t Feel Pressured to Answer the Door If someone knocks unexpectedly, it’s okay not to respond. 🆔 Always Check ID for Expected Visitors If you’re expecting a delivery or professional visit, ask for identification or confirmation of their workplace. 🔗 Use Door Chains and Lock Porch Doors Keep your door chain fastened and porch door locked at all times. 👁️ Use Your Spy Hole or Video Doorbell Check who’s at the door before opening. If you have a wireless video doorbell, speak through it without opening the door. 🔥 Firework & Bonfire Safety Advice 🔥 Fireworks and bonfires can be fun and festive, but they also pose risks to people, pets, and wildlife. Please follow these safety tips: 🎆 Attend Organised Displays Community events are safer and can be more considerate to neighbours and animals. 🏡 If Hosting at Home Keep buckets of sand, water, or a fire extinguisher nearby.Never leave bonfires or fireworks unattended.Check the bonfire before lighting it, there could be smaller animals sheltering inside. 🚫 Know the Law It is illegal to throw or set off fireworks (including sparklers and Category 1 fireworks) in or into any street, highway, or public space. 🐾 Be Mindful of Pets & Wildlife Loud noises and bright lights can cause distress to many pets in particular horses. Please give your neighbours plenty of advance warnings if you're planning on setting fireworks off. Give the start and end times of the display and stick to those times.
