I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Morning Everyone,
During my foot patrols yesterday, a local resident made me aware of an empty property that was in need of some repair. On looking at the property, externally, although the property building looked locked and secure, looking at the rear garden fencing began making me think... One of the fence panels was actually missing or worse had been removed and not put back (for what ever reason). This is like a "come on in" to burglars or even squatters.
My message to you....
As we all begin to tidy up our back gardens and other outside areas, please consider replacing old or damaged fencing, gates, locks or, if possible, even adding more protection, such as trellising, to vulnerable areas like those properties that back on parks, railways and alleyways etc... Some Burglars are opportunist and will often take advantage of a damaged fence panel, which provides easy access to the rear garden door. Please also bear in mind that Burglars also "garden hop" what this means is that they perhaps enter by a neighboring garden, in order to burgle your property. Please do all you can to secure your gardens (I do know how expensive fencing and locks can be) but it will be money well spent.
Thank you all so much for your help and support. Kind regards Bill
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
