Scam alert regarding unexpected tarmac offers |
||
We’ve been made aware of a potential scam involving a man claiming to be from the council or highways department. He’s been approaching community halls and churches, offering ‘surplus tarmac’ at a minimal cost. To our knowledge, this is not a genuine offer, and we’re working with Trading Standards to investigate. In previous cases, people who accepted this offer did not receive the service after paying, or were later hit with unexpected, high bills. If you’re approached like this: Do not engage Do not share any personal details Report it to the us via our non-emergency contact methods Contact Trading Standards through Citizens Advice Stop. Think Fraud.We always advise against buying goods or services from unexpected visitors to your home or business. If you’re looking to have work done: Do your research Get multiple quotes Check reviews and ask for recommendations A reputable tradesperson will: Be clear about pricing Provide details of the work and costs in writing Confirm any extra costs before starting work If a cold caller tries to pressure you to make a quick decision, walk away as this is a classic fraud tactic.
