This week marks National Hate Crime Awareness Week, an important time for us to reaffirm our commitment to tackling hate crime and supporting those who are affected by it.
As a Police Service, we stand united with our communities in saying there is no place for hate in any form. Hate Crime - whether motivated by race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or gender identity - causes lasting harm, not only to victims but to the wider community. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected, wherever they live, work or visit.
During Hate Crime Awareness Week; we are working closely with our partners in local authorities, Schools and community organisations to raise awareness, build trust and encourage reporting. We know that some victims may feel reluctant to come forward, whether through fear, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence in the system. Our message is clear; we will listen, we will support you, and we will take action.
Every report helps us understand the true picture of hate in our communities and allows us to take steps to prevent it. Even if you are unsure whether what you've experienced or witnessed is a hate crime, we urge you to report it. You can do this by contacting the Police directly, speaking to a third party reporting centre, or reporting online.
Our officers receive dedicated training to recognise and investigate hate crimes sensitively and thoroughly. We also work year-round to strengthen relationships with community groups, faith leaders and advocacy organisations to ensure that our response is informed, inclusive, and effective.
Hate has no place in our society. Together-with awareness, understanding and action; we can create safer, stronger and more united communities
If you or someone you know has been affected by Hate Crime, please report it. In an emergency please call 999. For Non-emergencies you can call 101 or report online via the main Greater Manchester Police website
