Local Priorities Burglary Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

There had been a burglary at Park Avenue in Ruislip. Burglary had taken place on 09/10/2025 at 21:28 where 4 suspects had entered through the back yard door by smashing through it. Whilst getting to the back yard door they had damaged the fence and the fence door with a crowbar trying to get it. Suspects who were wearing balaclavas had taken jewellery from which several sets of watches were confirmed.

We advise keeping your gold in a secure place when you are not home such as a floor mounted safe or a remote secure deposit box, alternatively you can attempt to hide your jewellery in less obvious places such as in a hidden cavity in furniture or in the walls.

If available or desirable you could consider any of the following:
- Riot glass / Bars.
- Alarms.
- Cameras (If not already present)
- Automatic lights system.
- Automatic speaker system. (To play sounds like a dog barking on a timer or door bell.)
- Anti-Climb paint.
- Plastic spikes.
- Trellises on fences.
- Immobilise UK national property register.

The goal is to make your house a difficult target. Detect the burglars as soon as possible ideally even before they enter the house. Then waste as much of their time as possible, buying time for police to get there. Get them to leave as much evidence identifying them as possible. Avoid touching anything to enable the forensics team to gather evidence.

While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you:  

• Double lock your door every time you leave the house  

• If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access.  

• Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows.  

• Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through.  

• If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house.  

• Make sure all valuables are out of sight. 

• Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps.  

• In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on.  

• Set your burglar alarm 

• Lock your  shed or garage 

• Mark, register or record your valuables.
