A missing person with Dementia - Herbert Protocol - Crewe Police Recent Story |
||
Yesterday we had every available resource committed to finding an 89 year old lady with Dementia, who had been reported as missing.
Officers checked local shops, the train and bus stations, bus stops, public toilets, cafes, the local town was covered in high visibility uniforms and patrol cars.
It's always a worrying and intense feeling, when you so desperately want the person to be found safe and well, but the circumstances indicate how vulnerable the person is.
CCTV was reviewed and we used this, to keep Officers in the right areas.
We got a phone call from a local Charity (The Wishing Well) who had welcomed Jean in, after she had been wandering around Crewe. They greeted her with a hot drink, a comfortable seat and even prepared her a hot meal to take home, once we arrived.
The relief for the family and ourselves when she was found safe and well was immense. On our arrival, she was smiling, chatting away and being taken well care of. (A huge thank you to the kind helpers at The Wishing Well in Crewe and thank you to everyone who assisted our search. )
The family was brought over to her by our Sgt, and then we took them all back to their home address.
The family kindly invited us into their home, and we sat with the family and completed the Herbert Protocol Form. (If you're a regular to our Facebook page, you may have seen the post about this the other day, if not here's a recent story about what it's all about! - https://orlo.uk/ZfytS ) (If the link does not work, then please visit the Crewe Police Facebook page!)
For anyone with a loved one with Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease in Crewe, Cheshire - Please feel free to complete a form -https://orlo.uk/TO19g and email to lizzie.jolley@cheshire.police.uk (This form can save vital time if someone should go missing with Dementia or Alzheimer's. It gives us all the key information, so that we can get a head start in looking for your loved one.) Don't wait until a family member goes missing, please fill this in as soon as possible! (If the link does not work, then please Google 'Cheshire Police - Herbert Protocol Form)
We talked about trackers, and CCTV for the home address, and discussed medical wrist bands and other useful devices.
We then left the family to enjoy the food which was kindly prepared by The Wishing Well.
Often when locating someone with Dementia, we get to hear the wonderful stories about the persons younger years, and all of the places that they have been to over the years. We certainly got this privilege with the lady yesterday.
Stay safe. PCSO Lizzie Jolley 22582
