Good Evening Resident
Chelmsley Wood Newsletter, 9th October 2025
There is a noticeable change to the Season this week and Storm Amy definitely blew in with force. Many of us are now tidying up our gardens and securing or putting away outside furniture, please check that sheds and garages are secure with good locks, think about chaining items such as, mowers, strimmers & bikes etc, all together.
With the onset of Autumn my thoughts have turned towards darker nights and crime prevention for the Winter months. This week we have been handing out timer plugs to residents outside Asda & CoOp. These timers are a really good idea, it means you can have a lamp come on at a pre-set time and your house won’t be in darkness all evening while you are out. They also mean you don’t need to leave a light on all day & night if you are away, saving pennies on the electricity bill. An added bonus is, it also makes the house cosy & welcoming when you return home to a light on. I will have some of these plugs with me at my next Cuppa with a Coppa, dates below, along with other crime prevention goodies and advice. Check out https://www.west-midlands.police.uk/crime-prevention It’s good to be prepared and think of these things in advance, like checking that outside lights are in good working order. We have a great little booklet with a checklist of areas around your home that could make your property an easy target. Sometimes it is an easy fix such as bin placement, could they be used to climb onto or over fences or flat roofs? I will bring some of these booklets to my next engagements.
Whilst we were outside Asda we bumped into the guys from Fitcap, they are youth workers who do outreach patrols to engage with the youngsters hanging around. They do regular visits to the Town Centre eateries and bus interchange which really helps us with the education and enforcement of the PSPO, Public Space Protection Order. If you would like to know more about facilities and opportunities for young people check out Urban Heard at Crabtree Hall, Fordbridge, B37 5BU
