Two men jailed for drug offences |
||
Two men have been jailed for over two years each for drug offences following their arrest near Needham Market.
Xhenis Demaj, aged 27 and of the High Street, Thatcham in Berkshire was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday 7 October to 28 months in jail following his guilty plea to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. Ezmir Zenelaj, aged 27 and of Mawney Road, Romford was also jailed for 28 months following his guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
On 7 September a grey Skoda was stopped at Beacon Hill on the A140 by officers from the Sentinel West Team. A Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act search revealed a small amount of cash and drugs paraphernalia contained in the vehicle with both occupants of the vehicle arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. Both suspects were charged with being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. Damaj also charged with driving without a licence.
Enquiries established a caravan near Stowmarket where the two males had been staying. A search of the caravan found a large quantity of uncut cocaine and around £1000 in cash located with the drugs that had a street value of approximately £20,000. The Skoda was seized due to no valid licence or insurance.
PC Mike Spurling from the Sentinel Team in the West said: “It is very satisfying to see these two individuals bringing these harmful substances onto our streets have now been detained, prosecuted and sentenced for their crimes. It once again sends out a very clear message that we will robustly deal with individuals that are involved in organised criminality and those that scourge our communities by dealing drugs. They both now have lengthy sentences to reflect on their actions.”
The arrest and investigation was led by the Sentinel West team. The three Sentinel teams across the South, West and Eastern areas of the county provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk’s road network to proactively disrupt serious and organised criminal activity as well as increase police visibility. The mobile unit disrupts criminals and protects communities across Suffolk’s road network using a variety of techniques to deal with offenders involved.
