Burglary crime prevention advice |
||
One of the most common types of things we find to be taken from homes are car keys. We want you and your belongings to stay safe over winter, so here are some ways you can help keep your keys safe:
Do not keep your car keys by the front door. This is the first place a burglar will look, and sometimes keys can be extracted through a letterbox without even needing to set foot inside your home. If you sleep with the windows open at night, please keep your keys out of sight and reach, preferably on the first floor or above depending on the property you live in. Consider storing your keys in a signal blocking pouch or box to prevent keyless theft. Hide spare keys somewhere secure and not immediately obvious, where a burglar wouldn’t necessarily think to look. Try to make sure it’s not somewhere so safe you forget where you put them! If you own your property, you could get a safe fixed to the ground where you can store keys, important documents, valuables and cash. We recommend a heavy safe anchored to the ground, as burglars have been known to steal smaller, more portable safes. | ||
