Speed Enforcement - Tanterton Hall Road #YOUSAIDWEDID |
||
Good afternoon,
π¨ SPEED ENFORCEMENT UPDATE π¨ #YOUSAIDWEDID
π More speed enforcement has been carried out today by the Neighbourhood Team on Tanterton Hall Road in response to concerns raised by residents regarding reports of speeding vehicles along this road. The concerns have been identified from our recent Lancashire Talking surveys which indicate that road safety concerns are consistently in the top 5 issues raised by residents in this area, and by residents at PACT. These patrols will continue, and speed enforcement will be planned accordingly. Please continue to report any issues so we remain aware and can take appropriate action.
During our time on Tanterton Hall Road today approximately 30 vehicles passed through our checkpoint. Unfortunately, whilst most drivers were adhering to the speed limits, a small number (3) were not. The fastest on this occasion being 40MPH. Those drivers were stopped and where appropriate have been reported for the offence of speeding where either a speed awareness course will be offered, or a fixed penalty notice will be issued. Enforcement will continue so please slow down. #YOUSAIDWEDID
Speeding remains one of the most significant contributors to serious road traffic collisions. It endangers not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. The risks include: π Reduced Reaction Time: At higher speeds, drivers have less time to respond to unexpected hazards such as pedestrians crossing, vehicles braking suddenly, or changes in road conditions. π Longer Stopping Distances: The faster a vehicle travels, the longer it takes to stop. This increases the likelihood of collisions, especially in built-up or residential areas. β οΈ Greater Impact Severity: Speed directly affects the force of impact in a collision. Higher speeds result in more severe injuries and a greater chance of fatalities. π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Increased Risk to Vulnerable Road Users: Children, the elderly, cyclists, and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable. A pedestrian struck at 30mph has a far higher chance of survival than one struck at 40mph. π¨ Reduced Vehicle Control: Excessive speed can lead to loss of control, especially in poor weather, on bends, or when manoeuvring around obstacles.
Did you know you can raise any local speed concerns you have on the link below and this will be tasked to your local neighbourhood teams; Speed Concern Submission β Lancashire Road Safety Partnership.
You might have seen also the newly erected SPID (Speed Indicator Device) which has gone up on Tanterton Hall Road. A SPID is a radar-activated sign that displays a driverβs current speed to encourage adherence to the speed limits. This has been funded and provided by the Ingol and Tanterton Neighbourhood Council who have acknowledged that road safety and speeding (particularly along this stretch of road) has been raised as a concern. The SPID is an incredible useful device in reminding drivers to slow down and stick to the speed limits. So, thank you to the Neighbourhood Council for their support in tackling this issue. At the end of the day, everyone has a responsibility for keeping our roads safe and exceeding the speed limit puts lives at risk. Thank you
PC Jenny, PCSO Joe
