Woman arrested following attempted theft

We have arrested a woman following reports of an attempted theft on our #problemsolvingpolicing patrols in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers were on foot around Longton on Sunday (5 October) when they were stopped by shop staff who reported that a woman had attempted to steal £140-worth of clothing.

The area was searched and a 46-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft from a shop.

She has since been released on bail with conditions whilst our investigation continues.

Officers also moved on two rough sleepers who were sitting outside Tesco, following reports of anti-social behaviour.

We have been able to reduce shoplifting incidents by introducing hotspot policing patrols across Staffordshire, which is designed to reduce crime and improve safety in areas with high crime and anti-social behaviour rates.

We're continuing to act proactively across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire to drive reductions in crime and to target those committing high harm offences in local communities.
