Dear Resident, A question was asked at the most recent Ashton Hurst PACT meeting regarding disposing of Nitrous Oxide cannisters that are found on streets. Having scoured the Tameside Council website, I've been unable to find anything relating to safely disposing of these cannisters via your weekly refuse collection.
Recycle 4 Greater Manchester (R4GM) state on their website… "You can take Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) canisters to a recycling centre. Bayley Street Household Waste Recycling Centre: Bayley Street, Stalybridge, SK15 1PZ Ash Road Household Waste Recycling Centre: Ash Road, Droylsden, M43 6QU Please do not put gas canisters in any of your bins at home as they may explode if they are crushed."
I will liaise with the Ashton Hurst Councillors to see if they are able to get clearer clarification if they can be disposed of in a correct manner as part of your weekly refuse collection. Just a reminder the Nitrous Oxide is now classed as a Class C controlled drug, and possession, where its intended use is to be wrongfully inhaled is illegal. Importation, exportation, production and supply, of Nitrous Oxide knowing it is likely that another person will wrongfully inhale is also an offence.
If you are worried that a family member or a friend may be using Nitrous Oxide, but you don't know what it is or what it does.. ASK FRANK |
