Local crime

Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Dorridge & Hockley Heath area between the 22nd September 2025 - 6th October 2025.

Burglaries:

Residential Burglary of Unconnected building – Four Ashes Road, Dorridge - 2 unknown offenders have forced entry to the garage and stolen 1x off road KTM bike and loaded it into a white van. Offenders have then made off in unknown direction.

Residential Burglary of a home – Apsley Grove, Dorridge - Unknown persons snapped the PVC door locks to enter the lounge room of the residential home, a tidy search was conducted, the WIFI was switched off, a car key was taken from the front porch, and a BMW was taken using the stolen keys.

Attempted Residential burglary of a home – Moorfield Avenue, Bentley Heath - Between stated times four unknown male offenders wearing masks and gloves have approached secure and attended property and have used an unknown implement to try and force a wooden door. Offenders have not gained entry and have made a small mark on the door and frame where they have tried to gain entry. Offenders made off on foot without gaining entry and did not steal anything.

Vehicle crime:

Theft from motor vehicle – Four Ashes Road, Dorridge – unattended and unlocked van was parked at the location when unknown offenders have stolen 2 laptops and DJ equipment before making good their escape in unknown direction.

Crime prevention advice

- Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen.

- Please don’t leave valuable items on show inside your vehicle. Even loose change can be appealing to vehicle offenders.

- Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting.

- CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.

- Consider purchasing anti-tamper number plate screws to secure your vehicle registration to your vehicle. Bare in mind that if you have a personalised plate, anti-tamper screws will make it very difficult to remove the plate if needed.

Local news

- A speed watch took place in Hockley Heath on School road and 26 Vehicles were caught exceeding the speed limit in the hour. One vehicle was caught doing 46mph in the 20 zone!

CCTV REGISTRY

We need more people to register their home or business CCTV and doorbell cameras to help solve crime by providing footage when alerted.

How it works in three steps:

1. Register your cameras securely in 60 seconds

2. You will receive a text or email when a crime happens near your home or business and our officers believe your CCTV may have recorded the incident

3. Upload the images via the secure link contained in the message

Thursday 6th November - 11:00 – 12:30 - Beat Surgery at The King George Memorial Hall, Hockley Heath. This is an opportunity for local residents to pop along and chat with your local PCSO’s/ Police Officers about the crime that is happening in the area. Its also an opportunity for you to discuss any worries/ concerns you have about the village.

Monday 20th October - 1:00 – 4:00pm – Violence Against Women & Girls Event at St Phillips Church, Dorridge. - In 2021 West Midlands Police (WMP) joined the country in its disbelief and horror at the murder of Sarah Everard by a serving police officer. The response to violence against women and girls became a force priority under the WMP VAWG Strategy 2021 - 2024 and work was delivered at pace across all commands and departments to: build trust and confidence with our communities; relentlessly pursue perpetrators; and create safer public, private, and online spaces for those living in, working in, and visiting the West Midlands. Women and girls frequently report that they don’t feel safe going about their daily lives. A 2022 ONS study found 27% of women reported they had experienced at least one form of harassment in the previous 12 months; 82% of women reported feeling unsafe in a park or open space; and 37% of women had stopped walking in quiet places such as parks or open spaces after dark. If you feel you need to come and disclose any information, Solihull Rural’s officer’s will be taking part in this event. There will be free tea & coffee, so please pop along!
