Canal Lane - Police Operation update

Dear Resident,

This morning, officers from Wakefield Central NPT working with Specialist Investigators from Operation Precision and specially trained Firearms officers conducted enquiries at an address on Canal Lane, Stanley.

Temporary road closures were put in place to ensure the safety of the public and three people in the address were spoken to. After a short time, all three were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the Supply of Class A Drugs.

Whilst a small scene remains in place, the highways have reopened. Colleagues from the Neighbourhood Police Teams are in the community, talking to residents, explaining the nature of the policing activity and providing reassurance.

This was a dynamic operation delivered at the highest level of professional policing targeting mapped criminal activity and offenders. Inspector Fraser of Wakefield Central NPT said: “I would like to thank colleagues from Operation Precision and the Force Firearms Support Unit. Acting on live time intelligence a prominent offender has been located and quickly taken into custody. Searches are ongoing and initial enquiries suggest that a large amount of controlled drugs and money have been located. The principal suspect is of particular interest to the NPT and his arrest will assist in our safeguarding of children from criminal exploitation across the communities of Wakefield.

Whilst this remains an ongoing investigation this work supports our Serious Organised Crime management and facilitates further prosecution opportunities through recently obtained Gang Injunctions.”
