I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A suspect entered the property via the side doors and gained access to a bedroom. Jewellery was stolen.
Please take the following steps to reduce the risk of theft: • Keep valuables out of sight. Don’t leave jewellery or other high-value items where they can be seen from windows or easy-to-access rooms. • Use reliable hiding places and secure storage. A locked safe, a locked drawer, or a discreet, well-concealed spot are better than obvious hiding places.
Cars - Security Advice • Improve vehicle security: consider a steering lock, a signal-blocking pouch (key-fob Faraday pouch), and a ghost immobiliser. • Trim hedges and tidy gardens. Keep hedges, bushes and other vegetation trimmed so they cannot be used as hiding places. • Report suspicious activity. If you see anything unusual, contact the police and your neighbourhood watch. • Use physical deterrents: Fit a steering lock (cars) or a disc lock/chain lock (motorbikes). • Block keyless entry theft: Store your key fob in a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) to prevent thieves cloning the signal. • Install extra protection: Consider a ghost immobiliser or an aftermarket alarm/tracker. • Park smart: Whenever possible, park in a well-lit area or secure garage. • Secure valuables: Never leave items such as helmets, bags, or electronics visible inside your vehicle
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
