Operation Rimini - September Edition |
||||||
Good evening Resident,
Today was Operation Rimini in Stockport town centre.
Operation Rimini is a monthly day of action headed by Neighbourhood Policing Teams across the Stockport division. It is also supported by other specialist units within GMP - as well as key partner agencies. The operation has been running since mid-2023.
The goal of Operation Rimini is to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, primarily within our busy town centre, with a key focus on community engagement.
How The Day Unfolded
The day started with a morning briefing at The Light Cinema where officers and key partner agencies were given the run down on what the operation entails.
We were joined by Stockport MP Mr Navendu Mishra as well as Stockport Council, Merseyway Security, Public Heath and the local Neighbourhood Watch.
PCSO Edge and PCSO Smith ran a crime prevention stall in the newly opened Stockroom in the Merseyway Shopping Centre. Plenty of advice was given and crime prevention goodies handed out to members of the community. PCSO Charlton also offered free bike marking to help prevent and reduce bicycle theft in the town centre.
PCSO Radhakrishnan and PCSO John ran a crime surgery at Starbucks, Merseyway where members of the community could speak to a member of their local policing team face to face and raise any concerns they may have.
Whilst conducting high-visibility foot patrol around the town centre, myself and PC Shaughnessy located and arrested a male in Stockport town centre who was wanted on prison recall. He has since been returned to prison.
Not long after, officers from the Central Neighbourhood Team located and arrested another wanted male on Castle Street in Edgeley. This male was wanted for failing to attend court. He will remain in police custody until he can be put before the next available court.
Meanwhile, officers from our Tutor Unit were conducting vehicle stops within the town centre and enforcing road traffic signage. A number of vehicles were stopped, including one van which had no insurance. As a result, the van was seized and has now been removed off the roads.
Officers also seized two pedal cycles that were suspected to be stolen. Enquiries are on-going into the true owners of the bikes.
In the afternoon, officers in plain clothes stopped and searched a group of individuals in relation to an alleged theft incident. One of these individuals was discovered to be wanted on prison recall. The wanted male was arrested and taken into police custody. From there, he will be returned back to prison.
Today marks another successful iteration of Operation Rimini and we have no plans of stopping.
As always, thank you for reading!
All the best,
Will PC 1341
