PROTECTING HEDNESFORD HILLS SSSI

Our colleauges from the Cannock Chase District - Countryside Service would like to share this message: 

We’ve recently seen people collecting large quantities of mushrooms from Hednesford Hills. While small-scale personal foraging may seem harmless, this level of activity suggests commercial intent, both of which are a criminal offence.

Hednesford Hills is a legally protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and foraging here is strictly prohibited under several laws, including:

• Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006

• Theft Act 1968 (Section on Fungi)

• Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981

• Local byelaws

Anyone suspected of large-scale plant collection from this site will be reported to the police and relevant authorities.
