Dozens more illegal e-scooters and bikes seized |
||
Dear Resident, Following on the success of the summer operation where we seized 94 illegal e-scooters and e-bikes, the Cambridge neighbourhood team have been out again this week and taken another 35 off the streets as we continue to tackle illegal and anti-social use of the vehicles. My officers carried out proactive patrols on foot, police bikes and in police cars, focusing on hotspot areas where concerns have been raised by members of the public and local businesses. The operation aimed to tackle the growing issue of privately owned e-scooters being used illegally on public roads and pavements, as well as other vehicles being ridden dangerously or without insurance. Throughout the day, officers removed 26 e-scooters, eight delivery e-bikes and one moped (for no insurance). The force continues to remind the public that privately owned e-scooters cannot be legally used on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or pedestrian-only areas. Only rental e-scooters operating as part of government trials are permitted, and even then, riders must follow the rules and ride responsibly. Anyone with concerns about illegal or dangerous riding is encouraged to report it via the force’s website or by calling 101. Further advice about the laws around e-bikes and e-scooters can be found on our website. Kind Regards, Inspector Shawn Emms Cambridge City Neighbourhood Team | ||
