Burbage Police Newsletter, Theft From Vehicles, Crime Prevention And "No Thanks, Halloween Poster"
Hello Resident,
We hope you are well. Here is our monthly newsletter. I have attached our crime prevention catalogue and the “No Thanks” Halloween poster for you to print off for yourself or neighbours. Pop me an email if you need any support Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
We were made aware of multiple vehicles having their windows smashed and items taken on the Millennium Hall cark park in the early hours of Sunday 28th September. We are completing work regarding CCTV and other lines of enquiry but if you are a victim of this type of crime, PLEASE ensure it is reported to Police either via 101 or online. If crime is not reported directly, it makes it very difficult, and timely to investigate it. It appears the incidents occurred at around 03:30 on the morning of the 28th so if you live in the area around the Parish council officer on Britannia Road, please take a look at you CCTV/RING to see if you have any footage that may help us. 25000572766 darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
Report from Church Street that at around 23:30 on the 27th, an office outbuilding has been entered and laptop taken. This report may be linked to the above incidents. 25000572134
Just another reminder, PLEASE DO NOT leave items such as laptops, cash, cards or expensive tools in vehicles/sheds etc, or in vehicles where they will become easy targets. This type of crime can increase as the darker nights approach and opportunistic criminals will take advantage.
Burbage Police Newsletter October 2025
Issue: Autumn Update October 2025
Sgt James Cross and PCSO Darren Stretton
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Burglary
You Said – Burglaries of homes, sheds and other outbuildings continue to be a concern in the area and as the darker nights approach house break ins have notoriously increased due to the signs that people are not home and the opportunities for offenders to be less disturbed with the cover of darkness. Items such as jewellery, cash, bank cards are often targeted. Back windows and conservatory doors will be weak points which criminals will target to enter property.
Priority 2: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Being the victim of a vehicle crime is a concern for local residents, and with the approach of Christmas leading to the likelihood of more valuables being in cars the opportunity for offenders to take advantage of this is high. The darker nights often sees an increase in theft from vehicles which will include items such as bank cards, tools, bags and cash. Motorbikes could also be targeted over the coming months.
Priority 3: Road Safety
You Said – Road safety is consistently raised as a concern around the village and with the colder, wetter months approaching and the morning and evenings being darker more people tend to use a car to take their children to school. The increase in vehicles leads to issues with parking and vehicles being left in dangerous/illegal positions.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Burglary - There has been no reports of Residential burglary this month, as this years overall crime figures relating to this crime remain low. We have received several reports of either suspicious activity or attempt burglary from areas such as Coventry Road, Forresters Road, Far Lash and Cowper Road. It is suspected these attempts may be targeted at the vehicles but please consider items such as window alarms, fence cactus spikes and Patlocks for conservatory doors. As we head towards the darker nights, we will be continuing to raise awareness as this type of crime can increase over the coming months. We have had a report of a break to an outbuilding office where a laptop was taken, please ensure sheds and outbuildings are locked, secured and alarmed and be mindful of what you are leaving in them as these locations can be vulnerable to opportunistic criminals. Shed alarms, fence cactus spikes, signage and window alarms can really help prevent and reduce these crimes.
Anti-social Behaviour – Youth related issues have calmed throughout the month and no particular locations of concern raised. We have been addressing isolated incidents of youth related criminal damage and assaults which include work with HBBC. Other anti-social behaviour includes neighbour disputes and complaints of Cannabis use from residential addresses. Police actions include Police interviews, warning letters, anti-social behaviour contracts, home visits, safeguarding referrals and communication with local schools.
Vehicle Crime - One report of a vehicle theft from Kensington Avenue where a Range Rover was stolen. The vehicle has been recovered. It is also suspected the 2 persons checking car doors and properties on the 13th and 16th around Far Lash, Forresters Road and Cowper Road, were looking for vehicles. Please use steering locks and try and block in any high value or high performance vehicles you may have. We have also just identified four vehicles on a car park where windows were smashed and it appears items such as tools and cash were taken. Ensure you have car key RFID wallets which will help protect against keyless car theft. Please do not leave laptops, bank cards, tools or cash in your vehicle. If you get notifications from CCTV or witness anyone behaving in a suspicious manner (especially in the early hours of the morning), please call 999 immediately if you believe there is a crime in progress.
