AT HOME SECURITY: Always lock your doors and windows, even when at home.Fit strong locks and deadbolts on entry doors.install window locks, especially on ground-floor windows.Use timer switches for lights to make your home look occupied.Keep valuables out of sight from windows.Don't leave spare keys outside, for example under mats or flowerpots.Use curtains or blinds at night.EXTERIOR AND GARDEN SECURITY: Keep gates, garages, and sheds locked.Trim hedges and bushes to remove hiding spots.Install out door security lighting and motion sensors.Secure ladders and tools that burglars could use.TECHNOLOGY AND DETERRENTS: Install a burglar alarm and/or security cameras. Consider a video doorbell to monitor visitors.Mark valuables with uv pens or property marking kits.Register valuables items on databases like immobilise.WHEN AWAY FROM HOME: Ask a trusted neighbour to check on your home.Don't post travel plans or absences on social media.Cancel deliveries or ask someone to collect mail.Park a car in a driveway or ask a neighbour.
