As we come to the end of September you can certainly feel the Autumn season rolling in and despite the nights getting dark and darker with each passing day your Local Rurals Policing team have been out and about fighting crime and tacking issues in your areas.
As the nights get darker we start to see a rise in burglaries in and around the Rurals where offenders often gain access to steal car keys, Offenders will often target side or rear UPVC doors breaking off the handles before snapping and removing the lock barrels before gaining entry taking the vehicle keys before making off with the vehicle, while we always recommend getting anti snap locks installed on UPVC doors especially on rear patio doors and we also recommend protecting your vehicle with an anti-theft device in the form of either an engine immobiliser and/or steering/pedal lock. I personally can’t recommend a steering lock enough, the brighter the colour the better as a giant yellow bar visible in the front window of your vehicle is a great deterrent to any would be thieves prowling past. We’d also like to request that residents keep an eye out for any suspicious activity that could be linked to car theft, it could be an unknown vehicle creeping around in the early hours of the morning or people paying particular attention to/taking photos of parked vehicles. Of you do see something suspicious then please contact us on 101 with as much detail as possible or if a crime is taking place or you believe is about to take place then please call us on 999. Also, our Meriden and Balsall Common Beat surgeries continue to run with people coming in with some excellent intelligence regarding issues happening in the area, if you would like to attend but are concerned in regards to confidentiality then worry not, everything you tell us is kept in the strictest of confidence and no names or addresses of those who speak to us ever enter our intelligence systems.
StreetWatch is our community-led project consisting of groups of volunteers who go out and conduct a high visibility patrol their area helping to stop crime and anti-social behaviour by being a visible presence. It’s also a great way for help people in the area get to socialise and get to know each other so why not sign up and meet some of your local neighbours to help. | ||
