I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. On 25th September 2025 – Officers from the Town Centre Team were deployed in plain clothes on patrol in the unmarked car when a call was circulated for Camden Town. The caller said that his bicycle had been stolen and that he was following it using a tracker and that it was in Camden Gardens NW1. Officers deployed and tried to contain the area, which has multiple exit points, unfortunately the suspect was able to escape on the bicycle and the chase was on.
Officers in the car headed towards an area they expected the suspect head towards. Meanwhile other officers linked back in with the victim who was still tracking the movements of the bike, relaying this information to the officers chasing. Eventually Officers managed to position themselves ahead of the suspect, an officer dismounted the vehicle and shouted at the suspect to “STOP”, but the suspect continued to try and make good his escape. The officer on foot managed to close down the distance and then in a feat of gymnastics tackled the suspect from the bike.
The suspect was arrested and charged with handling stolen goods, he went to court the next day where he pleaded guilt and he has currently been remanded in custody pending sentencing, he was also wanted by the courts for failing to appear for a criminal damage matter for which he was further arrested.
Police were able to return the victims £2200 bike to him at the scene, members of the public witnessed the incident and were seen to clap and thank officers for their work.
