From Flowerbeds to Handcuffs: Crime Doesn’t Bloom in Piccadilly Gardens |
||
During the course of the patrol, officers arrested three individuals in separate incidents. A male was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences; he has since been charged and bailed, with strict conditions prohibiting him from returning to Piccadilly Gardens. In another case, a male was charged and remanded to court tomorrow morning after breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by entering the gardens, in direct violation of his restrictions.
A female was also detained under suspicion of immigration and theft offences. She remains in custody this evening awaiting further interview.
In a related operation, colleagues from the Transport Unit arrested a male child under suspicion of dealing drugs in the gardens — a particularly troubling incident which highlights ongoing concerns about exploitation of vulnerable young people.
Sergeant Jon Wyatt of the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Our officers are dedicated to making Piccadilly Gardens a safer space for all. While some individuals remain braggadocious in their attempts to flout the law, today’s results show that enforcement is consistent and determined. We will not allow the gardens to become a safe haven for crime or anti-social behaviour.”
The team has reassured the public that patrols will continue and that they remain committed to tackling crime and ensuring Piccadilly Gardens is a welcoming area for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
