Stepping up activity in our town centres

#TogetherForBedfordshire | It’s been another busy week out and about for the officers tasked with keeping our local communities safe.

But we don’t police in a vacuum and we rely on the help of partners and the public to do our job.

We know shop-lifting’s a big concern both for shops and shoppers. And tackling it has been a big part of our Safer Streets Summer Initiative where we work with partners to make our town centres safer and more pleasant.  Our @bedfordcommunityteam was tipped off by Bedford Borough Council CCTV operators about one prolific shoplifter in town. When arrested she had £70 worth of goods !

And it’s also about being a reassuring presence on the High Street, which is why officers from the @Dunstableand Houghton Regis team have been patrolling in the Quadrant Centre talking to shop owners and working with them to address the issues.

In Luton the @lutoncommunity have been focusing on the roads with an operation targeting uninsured and unlicensed drivers. 42 vehicles were seized and lots more offences identified. It’s all about reducing road-related crime and protecting law-abiding drivers. We all end up paying for uninsured drivers with higher premiums !

And we know how you love to keep up with how our police dogs in training are getting on. So do we ! At four-and-a-half months old PD Myla is coming on strong and this week was on environmental training at the airport. Not a whimper despite plenty of loud noise and already a firm favourite with the Wizzair cabin crews !
