Understanding of Hate Crime and reporting Hate Crime to Humberside Police. |
||
Good afternoon dear valued community members,
During the recent North Lincolnshire Independent Advisory Group meeting, a point was raised by a key community member in terms of some rise in racial and religious hate, victims being unsure about how to report the matter to police and some not reporting the matter. It is clear that nationally, feelings are currently heightened due to a number of reasons, some of which are around Ukraine/Russia and Gaza-Palestine/Israel conflict. Other matters causing heightened feelings are due to illegal immigration into UK.
Due to above, I am providing below information which you should find helpful in terms of reporting Hate Crime to Humberside Police. First thing I would say is that any emergency matter or crime in progress should be reported by making a 999 call. Please see further advice provided below regarding when it is appropriate to call 999 emergency number.
danger to life use, or immediate threat of use, of violence Serious injury to a person and/or serious damage to property Criminal conduct the crime is, or likely to be serious and in progress an offender has just been disturbed at the scene an offender has been detained and poses, or is likely to pose, a risk to other people Road traffic collision involves, or is likely to involve, serious personal injury the road is blocked or there is a dangerous or excessive build up of traffic. If you don't require an emergency response, you can contact your Humberside Police via non emergency 101 number.
It is mentioned that on many occasions the suspect of hate abuse is travelling in a motor vehicle. If the suspect of Hate Crime is unknown and is in a motor vehicle then please note the registration number of the vehicle and provide to police. This is very helpful in terms of tracing the vehicle.
The SMS Emergency (e-SMS) service is provided for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired, as an alternative option for contacting an emergency 999 service. You must register your mobile phone on the e-SMS website to be able to use this text service, please see below 2 links in related information for details on how to register. Please visit these links for registering in terms of hard of hearing or speech impairment Contact 999 using Relay UK - How to use Relay UK | Relay UK and 999 BSL .
