ASB Update - Wendy's in Whitby

Earlier this year, we began addressing the concerning level of anti-social behaviour (ASB) occurring at the Wendy's restaurant in Whitby. The extent of the issues was having a negative impact on our community, public resources, the staff and the business itself. 

Since then, Whitby Police have implemented a multi-agency Problem Solving Plan (PSP), involving a range of actions and looking at root-cause issues. 

At the core of these actions was positive engagement visits to the home-addresses of many youths we identified as part of regular groups targeting the restaurant and causing ASB. These visits have been a lengthy endeavour but are now complete. Referrals, early-interventions, support and signposting to diversionary opportunities have been provided and facilitated, where appropriate. This includes referrals to the likes of the “Change Direction” programme, led by North Yorkshire Youth. 

As the nights grow longer and the season changes, the Police PSP at Wendy’s remains in force. Actions and patrols are still ongoing, and we continue to monitor the location closely. Those identified as causing any further issues will be dealt with appropriately.
