Horses and vehicles on the road |
||
Dear resident,
It has come to our attention “again” that some motorists are not slowing down when overtaking or approaching on the other side of the carriageway horses and their riders. As of the 29th January 2022 the highway code was updated to give more protection to those road users that are slower and smaller than the majority of vehicles on the roads. Vehicles must now pass horses at no more than 10mph, whether they are being ridden, being led on foot or any horse-drawn vehicles and allow at least two metres’ space when passing. For more information on the new changes, visit the Gov.uk website. I would urge any horse rider to consider getting a digital device like a Go-Pro camera to record their ride and if any dangerous or inconsiderate driving is recorded this can then be submitted to Op Snap on the following link for the potential prosecution of that motorists.
Kind regards
