In 2024/25 over 80 reports of doorstep fraud were received by Lincolnshire Trading Standards. Doorstep fraud has many guises, one is pretending to be someone official and having a legitimate reason to enter our homes. Criminals may knock on our doors and mention an important matter, such as gas or water to gain entry to your property or ask for your personal information. Genuine companies do sometimes operate door-to-door. They will often ring or email you to let you know when they are coming. Always remember who’s knocking on your door? You can ask them to leave and while you do some more research. Most importantly, it’s your home and genuine callers expect you to be careful.
