Theft of Pedal Cycle outside NEW MALDEN CENTRE, BLAGDON ROAD, NEW MALDEN,KT3 4TA |
||
Dear Resident, The following Theft of pedal cycle occurred on Monday 15th September 2025 between 8pm - 9pm,whereby victim secured their bike with a padlock around the wheel and frame outside NEW MALDEN CENTRE, BLAGDON ROAD, NEW MALDEN,KT3 4TA.
To secure your pedal cycle with two locks, use a combination of locks, such as a D-lock and a cable lock, securing the bike frame and both wheels to an immovable, well-lit object. Make sure the locks are as tight and as far from the ground as possible to prevent leverage and tools from being inserted. Also, secure any easily removable parts and register or mark your bike's frame number on a national database to help with its recovery if stolen.
Use two quality locks Variety is key: Use two different types of locks, such as a D-lock and a cable lock. Thieves are less likely to carry tools to defeat two different lock types.
"Sold Secure" standard: Opt for locks that meet or exceed the "Sold Secure" standard for independently tested and rated security products.
Secure the frame and wheels: Lock both wheels and the bike frame to a secure, immovable object, like a purpose-built cycle stand.
Position the locks correctly Minimize wiggle room: Position your locks to give thieves little or no room to manoeuvre or to insert their tools for leverage.
Keep the lock off the ground: Avoid letting the lock touch the ground, as this can make it easier for thieves to smash it with tools.
Lock to an immovable object: Ensure the object you're locking your bike to is also immovable and secure.
Add extra security measures Take off removable parts: Remove components like the saddle, lights, or baskets if they are easily detachable.
Use locking skewers: For quick-release wheels, use locking skewers or security nuts to secure them permanently to the frame.
Register your bike: Register your bike's frame number on a national bike registration database, such as BikeRegister.
Security mark your bike: Get your bike security marked as a deterrent to thieves, letting them know that if caught, the owner can be traced.
