Location: Northumberland Park and Bruce Castle Wards
Incident Details: A Dispersal zone has been authorised by Inspector Hassan from 1400 hrs on Friday 19th September 2025 until 0800 hours on Sunday 21st September 2025 giving police the power to remove people from the area causing Anti-social behaviour (ASB), return under 16s to a place of safety, and seize articles likely to contribute to ASB or cause harassment, alarm or distress.
This has been implemented following reports of increased levels of ASB including, street drinking in breach of the borough wide Pubic Space Protection Order (PSPO), loud amplified music until the early hours of the morning, open drug use and littering, and groups congregating in large numbers culminating in alcohol fuelled violent crime within the Northumberland Park and Bruce Castle ward boundaries.
We acknowledge that these authorisations can cause people to be concerned for their safety however the intention is to respond to community complaints of increased levels of ASB and violent crime that have negatively affected sections of the community. This power will be used proportionately to target those intent on causing harm and annoyance to residents and the community. We encourage the public to make use of the 101 and 999 emergency numbers to report a crime in action - there will be an increased neighbourhood police presence around until late in the evenings.
