Your Weekly Radford Update
Weekly Update from your local Radford NPT
Dear Members
Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
Burglaries and Vehicle Crime We have received a report of a business burglary on JUBILEE CRESCENT which happened in the early hours of Thursday 18th September. Suspects have entered the rear of the premises. If anyone has seen any suspicious activity or has any information please let us know.
A Ford Fiesta has also been stolen from VILLA ROAD. We are always on the lookout for “stolens” and this week we have recovered a Hyundai taken from the City Centre and also seized a vehicle which has been involved in car crime. In the News On Saturday 13th September BEAKE AVENUE and surrounding streets were cordoned off after a hand grenade was found in a resident's garden. The EOD were called in and carried out checks. Thankfully, the device was found to be empty, however until it was certain a cordon was put in place for everyone's safety. Given Coventry's wartime history and the intensity of bombing a discovery like this has been seen in our city before and all of us emergency services are well practiced with procedures to deal. Remember the one tonne Hermann bomb unearthed in 2015, some of us older boots on the team do! Thank you for everyone's understanding and patience whilst we dealt with this recent incident.
Awareness Another suspicious device was found this week, not in a garden but on a cash machine in Radford. Please be vigilant. Signs of a tampered machine can include a loose or seemingly oversized attachment to the card slot or keypad, hidden cameras above or beside the screen, overlay over the keypad which feels raised or unusual and difficulty inserting a card and/ or error messages. At an ATM always shield your pin and if you think something is not right trust your instinct and do not proceed with the transaction.
Herbert Protocol Your team assisted in searching for a missing gentleman with dementia from another part of the city. Regardless of team, when a missing vulnerable person is reported, all available respond to support the search efforts. The male was found swiftly as his family had arranged a GPS enabled tag due to previous wandering concerns. If you care for someone with dementia, please look at the Herbert Protocol. This form is used by Police across the country and includes information that helps facilitate a timely and accurate response. Community Speed Watch Following concerns raised at PACT Meetings, we have been carrying out Community Speed Watches. These really do assist in raising awareness and a reminder to drivers to check their speed. The data collected also builds a broader picture of road safety which in turn can influence change. If you would like to help set up a CSW in your area please email the team.
Until next week Stay safe everyone.
