Local Priorities Dangerous driving / speeding Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding dangerous driving and speeding, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Yesterday, the 17th September, PS Adams and PC Brown were at a meeting with the Duty Manager of Tesco, Elmers End and their Anti-Social Behaviour Officer to address the Car Drifting which is causing ASB at the location affecting the surrounding areas. After the meeting had finished we were approached by a member of the public and made aware of a car driving erratically within the car park.

Officers intercepted the vehicle and the driver who was driving with no seatbelt on himself or the two children that were in the back of the vehicle. When the male got out of the vehicle officers could see a can of alcohol in the central reservation of the vehicle. This prompted the male to be breathalyzed and arrested for being almost double the legal limit, he also did not have insurance to drive the vehicle or a valid driving license. The mother of the two kids was on scene and took the kids home safely.

The driver was taken to Bromley Police Station and was charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle Whilst Being Under The Influence Of Alcohol, Driving a Motor Vehicle Not In Accordance With a License & Driving a Motor Vehicle Without Having Valid Insurance. The male will be attending court in the near future.

If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders.
