I wanted to provide an update regarding Mobile phone theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Good Afternoon,
Earlier this weekend, a victim had their phone snatched. The victim gave chase to the suspect who was tripped up but managed to get up and run again towards Bedford hill. Local officers on foot patrol saw this and also pursued the suspect. Thanks to the swift response from officers, the suspect was detained shortly after and then the phone was recovered the victim.
The suspect was then arrested for theft of a mobile phone, showing excellent work of local officers in keeping our community safe.
Unfortunately, phone snatches are an issue across London. Please see below some crime prevention advice to reduce the risk: - Stay aware of your local surroundings, especially at or near busy stations or main roads. - Try avoid using your phone at the edge of pavements, at crossing or near passing traffic. - If you are not using your phone, put it in your bag or pocket and not on for show in your hand for criminal opportunists. - If you do need to check your phone whether it is in a busy area or not do step away from the roadside or enter shops or stores where it should be safer to check anything.
Together we can make the community safer. Thank you for continuing to support your local police teams.
Kind regards,
PCSO KHAN 7019SW
