Parish Priorities - Speeding |
||
Dear Neighbourhood Matters user,
The four Parishes of the Oswestry Rural North area which are Gobowen and Selattyn, St Martins, Weston Rhyn and Whittington all have something in common with regards to the priorities set by their Parish Councils. This common factor is SPEEDING, with all four areas having it high on the list as one of their priorities and has featured as a priority for at least the last year and a half. Not only is it a Parish priority it is also a priority for West Mercia Police and the Nation on a whole, with Speeding being firmly set as one of the Fatal Four Factors, which also includes Drink and Drug driving, Mobile Phone use, and not wearing Seatbelts.
The Rural North Safer Neighbourhoods Team make efforts every month to address the Speeding priorities set in each Parish with some form of action or activity revolving around the priority taking place on a weekly basis. We’d like to share with you some recent activity completed to address the Speeding priority.
On Tuesday 2nd September the Team completed a Speed Survey on Station Road, Weston Rhyn where almost 100 vehicles were displayed their speeds as they passed the location. Only 2 vehicles at the time were exceeding the 30mph speed limit but not enough to warrant any prosecution as both below 35mph. On the same day a Speed Enforcement session was carried out on St Martins Road, Gobowen where 4 vehicles were registered as exceeding the speed limit. On Saturday 13th September the Team completed two Speed Enforcement sessions, one each in Babbinswood and Gobowen. 4 vehicles were recorded as exceeding the 40mph speed limit in Babbinswood and 6 vehicles were recorded as exceeding the 30mph speed limit on Chirk Road in Gobowen. On Monday 15th September the Team carried out a further two Speed Enforcement sessions with one taking place in St Martins and another in Gobowen. 3 vehicles were recorded as exceeding the 30mph speed limit on Ellesmere Road in St Martins and 14 vehicles recorded exceeding the 30mph speed limit on St Martins Road, Gobowen.
All vehicles recorded as exceeding the speed limits in place at the above locations would have either heard or will hear from West Mercia Police about excess speed prosecutions.
Speed Surveys and Enforcement will continue to take place across the Rural North area as we seek to address those priorities set by the Parishes and strive to make our roads safer. We’d also like to thank all the other road users that kept within the speed limits, by doing so you are helping the Team keep our roads safe.
With regards, The Rural North Safer Neighbourhoods Team. | ||
