Clare's Laws |
||
Dear Residents,
🛡️ What is Clare’s Law?
Clare’s Law — officially called the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) is a safety tool to help people know if a current or former partner has a history of abusive or violent behaviour. It gives you more information so you can make safer decisions in relationships.
There are two parts: • Right to Ask: you can ask the police for info if you’re concerned about a partner or ex-partner. • Right to Know: the police can also proactively share info if they believe someone is at risk.
👥 Who can use it? • Someone worried about their own relationship. • A family member, friend, neighbour, or other third party who thinks another person may be in danger.
🔓 How to apply
You can make a Clare’s Law request through Greater Manchester Police via this link: https://www.gmp.police.uk/rqo/request/ri/request-information/cl/triage/v2/request-information-under-clares-law/
You’ll need to provide some info about yourself, the person you’re asking about, and why you’re concerned. Police will check records. If they believe there’s a risk, they may disclose information.
đź’ˇ Why this matters
Knowing something early can help people make safer choices, decide whether to stay, leave, or take precautions. It’s about empowering you.
If it’s an emergency or someone is in danger always call 999.
